Safety
Project
Practice functional safety through an exemplary automotive engineering project.
Finalization of the functional safety engineering education which was gained through multiple prior courses, is now given in the form of a real-world, exemplary automotive safety project, which would be executed throughout all phases of its lifecycle by the participants on the course. Knowledge from previous courses shall now be applied to a specific problem in an integrated fashion, starting from requirement elicitation, hazard identification and safety assessment, technical and safety concept, system and software architecture and design, basic implementation, testing, verification and validation. Relevant standards and tools shall be applied throughout, and the project shall be carefully documented. The project is based on group work with assistance from the relevant personnel (engineers, safety experts) from the real industry projects in the automotive domain.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Set up a (safety-relevant) project and plan concrete safety-relevant tasks for an interdisciplinary project team
Structure the project systematically
Specify and define all necessary work packages
Plan, control and successfully complete the project according to the project plan.
Hardware (required): Computer with Internet connection, working speakers and microphone.
Software: Chrome browser.
Course Typically Offered: Live Online in Summer quarter (mid June - August).
Prerequisites: Students should have basic knowledge of system safety and functional safety and its application to automotive engineering in the scope of ISO 26262. At the very least, courses “NIT-FSBA-01: Systems, Functions and Safety”, "NIT-FSBA-05: Functional Safety Standards in Automotive", "NIT-FSEA-01: Functional Safety Design in Automotive" and "NIT-FSEA-03: Safety Verification and Validation" should have been completed beforehand, but also NIT-FSBA-02: Safety Analysis Methods, NIT-FSBA-03: Fault Tolerant Systems and NIT-FSBA-04: Managing Quality, Processes and Projects in Automotive, are highly recommended.
Next Step: To further practice and deepen the knowledge in automotive engineering, consider taking the courses from the Automotive Engineering catalog (NIT-AU-XX).
